Spanish greyhound standard

First impression shows an elegant dog of medium height, calm and reserved
It is smaller, much lighter and more subtle than the Greyhound – in terms of conformation. Striking is the length of all parts of the body.
The body is rectangular horizontally, with the front and back stretched.
Compact skeleton, long and drawn head, long chest, strongly distended abdomen and long tail.
Fine coat rough haired or shorthaired – different coloration.
On hunting develops dynamism, technical and tactical skills and abilities.

Dogs 60-70 cm; Females 60-68 cm
Elongated– length greater than height

2. Head
– it is: long, bony and dry
– The ratio of the cover of the skull to the muzzle is like 5:6
– narrow and slightly „tossed” profile, width of skull cap does not reach the dimensions of its length
– the frontal hilum and the occipital tubercle are prominent
– stop slightly drooping, very little noticeable
– muzzle long and with slightly turned up nose
– nose small moist and black
– lips very dry, the upper one covers the lower one, tense delicate and dark
– Teeth strong, white and healthy, scissor bite (incisors extremely well developed) complete
– eyes small, obliquely placed, almond shaped, often dark (tinged hazelnut), calm and gentle expression
– eyelids fine and dark eyelashes
– ears wide at the base, triangular form (rounded corners), fleshy in 1/3, thin in 2/3 and delicate to the end, high set, with interest in 1/3 are semi-erect ending with bent tips – Pointed laterally, at rest folded into „rose petal” and lying on the head, upright (on the side of the head) reaching almost to the mouth
– dark and very arched palate.

3. Trunk
General view – strong and mobile, ribs are visible and well developed, strongly raised abdomen, betrays strength and agility
– withers slightly visible
– back straight, long and stable, with wide intercostal spaces (lying flat), the length of back is a little longer than the height at the withers, the lumbar parts long strong and not very wide with compact muscles which give the impression of mobility and strength
– rump long strong and sloping (the deflection of the cross is 45% in relation to the horizon)
– slightly concave line of the back from the withers to the croup, convex in the lumbar part, stable during running gives the impression of great elasticity

4. Chest
– powerful even though not wide
– deep not reaching the elbow in extension to the length
– tip of sternum emphasized

5. Belly and flanks
– abdomen strongly folded from the sternum
– short, dry and well developed flanks

6. Tail
– strong at the base falls between the legs and adheres to the thighs, narrowing more and more Az to the thin end
– mobile and very long
-at rest has the shape of a sickle with a prominent drooping hook at the end (characteristic of the breed)
– when running it is raised

7. Fore limb
General appearance: built „stiffly”, delicate, straight even short and thin metacarpals and feet („hare's feet”)
– shoulder dry, short and sloping, the scapula is slightly shorter than the shoulder
– arm long (longer than the shoulder), very muscular with „free” elbow (i.e. not adhering to the chest)
– forearm very long with well visible bone and tendons, straight and even
– metatarsus slightly inclined, delicate and short
– feet similar to hare's feet, closed, high toes, strong
and long phalanges, the fifth finger and pads are well developed and strong, the skin between the fingers is very strong, claws very well developed
– Angulation
shoulder to shoulder 110 degrees
shoulder to forearm 130 degrees

8. Hind limb
General Appearance:
strong, well visible bones, long well developed musculature, prominent angulation, well visible knee, short metatarsal (vertical to the tip), hare feet with high toes which give the impression of strength and mobility
– thigh very strong, long, tense, the thigh bone has the optimal right-hand position in relation to the ground, looking from above you can see the well-developed musculature which is long flat and narrow, the length of the thigh is 3/4 of the length of the lower leg
– shank very long with well marked delicate bones, muscular in the upper part – less muscular in the lower part, clearly noticeable veins and tendons
– ankle very pronounced tendons which are well developed
– metatarsus thin, short, oblique to the ground on the right side
– feet „hare”, the same shape as the front one
– Angulation:
hip to thigh 110 degrees
thigh to tibia 130 degrees
hock greater than 140 degrees

9. Running, gait
– typical running (gallop) – step is very long, close to the ground, mobile and strong, without tendency to innoch and stepping
– tense on the whole body, strong, pink, wet parts of the skin are dark

11. Hair
– dense, very fine, shiny, evenly distributed over the body,
– various types: rough and short
– roughness and hair length changes

12. Coat colors
– varied, typical paintwork by.importance:
(a) brown spots and brown centipedes more or less dark and well pigmented
(b) black
(c) dark and light tones of beige (the color of a Barquillo ice-cream wafer)
(d) browned like a piece of toast
(e) Cinnamon
(f) yellow
(g) red
(h) white
(i) mottled

– missing incisors (it is not a mistake to lose them in an accident)

– short, round neck
– bright, round, bulging eyes
– short, standing and small ears
– narrow ribs
– thick lips
– „saddleback” back
– short sides
– short, round and not very oblique cross
– sagging, flabby and „round” musculature
– faulty posture, „open” toes
– soft paw pads
– amputated body parts (e.g. tail, ears)
– unbalanced character

3. Elimination errors (off. from breeding and competition)
– nose disarticulated
– strong front and back bite
– albinism (lack of pigment)
– very narrow, flat, straight lines of the spine
– chest much deeper than the elbow
– absence of testicles
– other features which indicate deviation from the standard
